AT GLEANINGS
Many friends have asked us where we will be living. We will be living on site at Gleanings for the Hungry. Along with the peach plant, soup plant, warehouse, offices, and volunteer housing, Gleanings also has a small lane of staff housing units on campus. We will be living in one of those units!
CENTRAL VALLEY
Dinuba is in the heart of California's Central Valley! This the heartland of California and the fruit basket for the rest of the country and even the world! Most of the summer fruit we eat is grown in the San Joaquin Valley--grapes and raisins, peaches, nectarines to name just a few. As you can see in the photo below, we will be moving from the city to the country; the Central Valley is an beautiful agricultural region and it is the backyard of Los Angeles and Southern California. The closest major cities are Visalia (20 miles south) and Fresno (30 miles north). Gleanings property is just at the base of the Sequoia National Forest (45 miles to Grant's Grove) where we have taken student to Hume Lake's winter camp for decades (55 miles).
Moving to the Central Valley will be quiet a culture change for the Rotunnos! We are excited for it!
COMMUNITY
All of the Gleanings staff live on site, so we are really looking forward to the community life on campus.
YOU'RE INVITED!
Chelsea and I truly want to partner with you in this whole mission. Yes, we want you to support us and read our monthly newsletter and blog posts! But, we want to invite you to come up to Gleanings and visit, get away, and participate in this mission of serving the poor! We will need your friendship during this time, so look at your schedule and start thinking of a time to visit us this year!
