Wouldn't it be amazing to have the opportunity to team up with incredible people to bring nutritious food to hungry communities in 100 countries around the world? That is exactly what we will get to do at Gleanings for the Hungry!

Gleanings for the Hungry is a Christian nonprofit organization and a ministry of Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The mission of Gleanings is to help feed the hungry of the world both spiritually and physically.

Gleanings runs three main ministries--dried fruit production, dehydrated soup production, and Discipleship Training Schools (DTS).

DRIED FRUIT PRODUCTION

During summer Gleanings partners with local California growers in the Central Valley to "glean" the unmarketable or "cull" fruit--particularly peaches and nectarines--then process them into sun-dried fruit. Gleanings picks up large bins of culls, already picked and separated by the growers, and brings them to its fruit production plant in Dinuba, California. The fruit is then processed by a large team of staff, interns and volunteers.

Gleanings hosts a summer internship program for young adults to grows as leaders and to learn to run the entire fruit production process. Each week in the summer approximately 100 volunteers come to Gleanings to work the fruit production process (inspection, cutters/coring, trays, layout, pick up, packaging, and more). DEHYDRATED SOUP PRODUCTION

From January through early summertime, Gleanings welcomes all ages of volunteers to work in the soup production process; families with young children, school groups, international back packers, local volunteers, adults, retired people--everyone can help! Thousands of pounds of dehydrated vegetables and spices are donated and volunteers help to blend and package it to produce a healthy nutritious soup. At full production Gleanings can produce up to 2 million servings of soup mix in a week! During soup season Gleanings also has various service opportunities such as quilting for orphanages, special construction projects, maintenance and renovations around campus.

DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING SCHOOL (DTS)

Gleanings is also a YWAM base. Pronounced Why-Wham, Youth With A Mission's vision and purpose is "Know God and Make Him Known". People of all ages participate in various kinds of global outreach projects and ministries as they grow in their own faith and learn to serve others on a global scale! Gleanings integrates a 20-week discipleship training program including 12 weeks of classroom lectures and a mercy ministry outreach where team members serve with a ministry overseas for 8 weeks. This provides a fast-paced, faith-building, challenge for anyone wanting to grow in his or her faith and get involved in missions.
